Maitree Siriboon

Maitree Siriboon was born in 1983 Ubonratchatanee province, Thailand, before moving to Bangkok in 1998 to study, first at the College of Fine Art and later at Silpakorn University. He is currently living and working in Bangkok.

He is one of the most sought-after Thai artists who has gained international recognition through his staged photography. His work has featured in a Christie’s Auction and has been shown in major exhibitions from New York, Paris, Italy, Netherlands, China, Bangkok, Indonesia, Singapore to Brazil. He has also appeared in numerous international art publications.

His photography series draws inspiration from his childhood in the remote rural area of Isaan (North Eastern Thailand). Coming to Bangkok is analogous to opening himself to global influences. Identity is a central theme in his works which deal with the migration of labor, dislocation, issues of sexual identity and exploitation. The pieces shown here are part of the Dream of Beyond series questioning the role of the media, capitalism and how the human body has been treated as an object or commodity.
